Living history at its best on the site of the original DuPont black powder mills

Located on 235 scenic acres along the Brandywine River, on the site of the first DuPont black powder works, Hagley tells the story of life and industry in the nineteenth century through exhibits, tours, restorations, and demonstrations.

This National historic Landmark and National Recreation Trail has something for everyone: Architecture, horticulture, interactive exhibits, machinery demonstrations, and a beautiful spot to walk along the water near the sluice gates and millraces. The site has a full calendar of events.

Hagley is where the du Ponts' United States story begins. All of the other fabulous places the family created in this area, including Winterthur, Nemours, and Longwood Gardens, owe their origins to the fortune they made with their black powder enterprise right here.

Light lunch is available at the Belin House on Workers’ Hill.
